Recently, we had the honour of participating in a pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima, in Portugal, assisting Ireland Needs Fátima to deliver roses and petitions to Our Lady. This journey was not just a personal spiritual endeavour but a collective effort to support a cause close to many hearts, including ours – the spreading of the message of Our Lady of Fátima to the whole world.
On 12th October, we went to the Chapel of the Apparitions, a sacred place where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to the three shepherd children in 1917 and delivered all the petitions written during visits of the statue of Our Lady of Fátima to their homes. What a privilege to be part of the journey of those people, even without knowing them! God is truly good!
Later, we brought over 700 red and white roses, which were offered to Our Lady, and decorated Our Lady’s carrier during the candle-lit procession. These beautiful flowers were given to Our Lady to thank those who led the Rosary Rallies in May this year. Each rose symbolises a prayer, a hope and a heartfelt petition to Our Lady of Fátima. Also, they were a way to thank Our Blessed Mother for all that She does for us and for the world.
Later that day, we participated in the candlelight procession. It was an honour to be part of it and witness firsthand the beautiful devotion of thousands of faithful devotees praying the Rosary together with brothers and sisters from all over the world. The Catholicity of our Church is a blessing! It was so incredible to see the candles lit, forming a wonderful wave of light throughout the sanctuary. A truly remarkable experience.
The following day, 13th October, we gathered at the Chapel of the Apparition again. There, we prayed the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary for all the supporters of Ireland Needs Fátima. The atmosphere was filled with a sense of peace and unity, as we felt the presence of Our Lady guiding and blessing us. Watching the faith of each pilgrim there helped us to strength our confidence and faith in Our Lord and His Mother. I particularly remember those going on their knees around the altar and saying their prayers. Their faith and devotion truly inspire us.
This pilgrimage was a reminder of the power of collective prayer and the strength of the Catholic Church. It was a journey of faith, hope, and charity, and the roses and petitions we delivered are now a part of the Sanctuary, a symbol of our devotion and a plea for Our Lady’s intercession.
We are not alone and Jesus cares for each and every one of us through His Beloved Mother. May we cherish this gift from God which is Our Lady with all our hearts.
